1963-1965: Hull College of Technology to study for the Ordinary National Diploma in Building.

1965-1967:  Sheffield College of Technology gained HND in Building.

1966: John Laing Construction in their Surbiton Office, Surrey in the Purchasing Department as a trainee Buyer for work experience.

1967: During the last few months at Sheffield I approached John Laing and joined them, as a Graduate Builder, on a 2 year Management Training Period.

1967: Manchester Regional Office, Old Trafford, Initial Project in Hulme, a District of Manchester in the Cost and Bonus Department.

1968: Stockport. The Project 2 X 22 storey blocks of Flats. I passed my Institute of Building examination Final Part 1, and was attending College on one day release studying for the final Part 2, Becoming a Member of the Institute of Building was the culmination of my of my formal studies.

1969: Yorkshire Post Building in Leeds where a new Print facility and Head office were being constructed. I arrived to take control of the Production Control Department.

1970: Guinness Kegging Plant. Runcorn, a new challenge to me as it was a heavy industrial construction as well as process engineering.

1971: New Wrexham Shopping Development. Responsible for the Production Control department on the project, this was a large departmental store, small shop units and a multi storey car park. During the later months of this development I set up the pre contract procedures for a Major school project in Mold.

1972: Mold Arts Centre Set up the Production Control Department and site procedures for the £6m Flintshire CC, arts centre and theatre project. This is now known as the ‘Clwyd Theatr Cymru’.

1975: Redcar Steelworks, Laing Civils were constructing the new £50m Steelworks for British Steel working with the Purchasing Department in setting up a planned schedule of material ordering and deliveries for each individual one of the 35 ancillary buildings on the complex..

1977: Laing North West - Gorton Housing General Foreman on a Community Housing Estate in Gorton Manchester; were major refurbishment was being carried out,

1978: Altringham New Town Centre I moved  to carry out one of the General Foremen roles on the Altringham New Town Centre and was responsible for the Co Op Departmental store.

1978/1979: Stockport Debenhams Fit out Contract Role as Sub Agent.

1979-1981: Macclesfield District General Hospital. Joined the Management Team on the multi million pound Macclesfield District General Hospital as Resources Manager and combined the work with an office block development in the centre of Manchester for the Royal Liver Assurance Company during the last 3 months at Macclesfield.

1981-1983 Wrexham District General Hospital Project Lead the Resources Management team until late on in the project.

1983
Chester Halifax Building Society Supported the site manager on this small and low value refurbishment project

1983-1984 Chester Bejam Development. Assumed the role of site manager on a small shopping and office development in a City centre site adjacent to the canal.

1984/1985 Sussex House, St. Peters Square Manchester. Site Manager on this Office Block, which was situated on an infill area in the above location.

1985 - Small Works Manager: Manchester Region.

At this time I decided that a change in direction and opportunity was needed, so I transferred to Laing Management Contracting who where responsible for carrying out the Management Form of Contract.

Prior to joining Laing Management and being allocated a project with them, I joined the International Division in the Companies Head Office in Mill Hill London, where I joined the Purchasing Department carrying out on expediting role for the British Embassy project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I worked on the project for 5 months and carried out two tours, the longer being 10 weeks in Riyadh.

 
1986-1987 London Bridge Office Development. Having returned to London, I commenced with Laing Management and joined them on their London Bridge Office Development worth then £65m and was responsible for the Progress monitoring and Sub Contract Control on the largest of the 4 Blocks. On sectional completion we undertook a £6m Fit out of a Dealers room for the ‘Big Bang’
